AMC gets Rs 92 crore from state govt under Smart City project
The municipal authorities on Friday claimed to have received a pat on its back from the state government for steps initiated for changing the face of the city under the smart city project. Sikander Ali, project in-charge and executive engineer in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), told TOI that principal secretary (Industries) Apurva Chandra appreciated the civic body’s planning for developing state-of the art facilities. “While giving a presentation, we made the senior officer aware of the proposed greenfield development, public transport system and solid waste management system. He was happy to see the progress. We also gave a detailed presentation on various private agencies competing for becoming project management consultancy (PMC) firm,” he said.
Apart from this, Ali told TOI that the government has released a fund of Rs 92 crore for the civic body. “The fund has been allotted under the Smart City project which will be utilised for developing various facilities in the city,” he said.It is for the first time that the civic body has received funds for execution of various schemes planned under the project. In the pan-city category of the Smart City scheme, the civic body has planned modern public transport system. The authorities have planned to develop over 100 smart bus stops with plans to operate a fleet of about 100 buses.
The AMC has prepared project worth Rs 278 crore for introducing a safe and reliable public transport system. It has chalked out a plan to invest Rs 110 crore in public transport system and Rs 168 crore in integrated project to develop smart bus stands, street lights and traffic signal system. Under the Greenfield development category, the civic body has identified about 550 acers land in Chikhalthana area to be developed using innovative planning. The developments would be carried out to address housing needs of city’s increasing population. Apart from this, the civic body has proposed to introduce modern technique to handle solid waste management system.
