NMC gets powers of proposed Smart City areas from NIT
In a big push to proposed Smart City Project, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has got powers as planning authority of mouza Pardi, Punapur, Bharatwada and Bhandewadi — covering almost half of East Nagpur — from the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT).
In another development, the area of proposed Smart City has doubled from initial 951 acres to 1,730 acres.
NIT board of trustees headed by chairman Deepak Mhaisekar on Friday approved the NMC’s proposal seeking powers as planning authority of four mouza under area-based development plan of Smart City Project’s phase-I. Municipal commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, CEO of Smart City special purpose vehicle (SPV) Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) Ramnath Sonawane and other trustees were present in the meeting.
NIT will submit the proposal to the state government for final approval. The government is likely to approve it soon.
Sonawane told TOI that NIT’s decision will expedite works under Smart City. “Now, the NMC has powers to prepare draft of town planning scheme and execute works in localities under area-based development plan. Ahmedabad-based HCP Design, Planning and Management Pvt Ltd, appointed to prepare draft of town planning scheme, and global agency Grant Thornton India LLP, as project management unit (PMU), will prepare detailed project report of works to be undertaken in the areas,” he said.
Also, the area of proposed Smart City has increased by 490 acres. Initially, the NMC had planned to develop Smart City on 951 acres of Pardi, Punapur and Bharatwada and then revised it to 1,240 acres by adding Bhandewadi. SPV has now added 490 acres that had been left out. The increase in area would help in effective town planning.
Of the total proposed project cost of Rs3,577.77 crore, the cost of area-based development plan in Pardi, Punapur and Bharatwada was Rs876 crore. It is now bound to rise with increase in area.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and union minister Nitin Gadkari on August 13 are likely to perform bhoomipuja of Command and Control Centre proposed in CP Office premises under Rs520 crore Smart City Solutions Project, which is part of Smart City.
The centre will operate and maintain all CCTVs, adaptive traffic management system etc
