RAIPUR TO DEVELOP ‘SMART ROUTE’ UNDER SMART CITIES MISSION
Under Smart Cities Mission, a 3.5 kms long ‘Smart Route’ comprising a cycle track, path way would be developed soon in the city. The route had been selected as per the traffic density of locations, officials informed. For developing ‘Smart Route’, District Collector OP Chaudhary, Raipur Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Shukla and Municipal Commissioner Rajat Bansal had already given their approval for the project. The Tata Consulting Engineers Limited (TCEL) has completed 50 per cent ground work for the project whereas the tender related to ‘Smart Route’ project would be floated within the next three months and the development works will commence by June or July this year.
The starting point of ‘Smart Route’ would be from Banjari Wale Baba Dargah (near Salem English Medium School) and pass through Motibagh garden, Mahila Thana Chowk, CSEB Chowk near Budhapara, Sapre School route, Parikrama Road, Budheshwar Temple Chowk, Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) route via Shyam talkies road and dharna venue while back at the Dargah. For developing the project under Smart Cities Mission, the relevant Zone-7 municipal office has completed the measurement of the road where it would not require to launch any anti-encroachment drive.
The ‘Smart Route’ would not be on four lane roads as it requires public garden, stadium, lake view etc. Earlier, the ‘Smart Route’ was to be developed from Shastri Chowk but it could not materialise as there are few government offices near Shastri Chowk. So the starting point of the project was taken from the Dargah point. The ‘Smart Route’ will have mobile toilet units at specific distances at several locations whereas there will be systematic arrangements for street vendors to run their mobile snack points, eateries, betel shops, handcarts, pushcarts and other business to earn their livelihood. The project is expected to be complete within one to one-and-half years.
‘Smart Route’ includes 4 meter wide cycle track, 2 meters wide path way, lake view, stadium, well developed and well equipped parks and garden for joggers. The ‘Smart Route’ should be 3 kms long but we have planned to develop 3.5 kms of road which covers Motibagh, RMC garden, garden situated at Swami Vivekanand Sarovar which was included so that people may take rest and spend some time there, said BR Agrawal, In-charge Officer, Smart Cities Mission, RMC. Moreover, fountain, open gymnasium, walking track would be developed in these parks. The Smart Route’ must cover stadiums so that three stadiums including Indoor Stadium, Outdoor Stadium and Netaji Subhash Stadium fulfill its another requirement. Budha Talab fulfills requirement of Lake View while if required, we will make the particular route ‘one way’, he said. Talking to the Pioneer, Municipal Commissioner Rajat Bansal said that the ‘Smart Route’ project would cost `6 crore.
