The Smart City Mission has got a budgetary allocation of ₹100 crore. Announcing the allocation in his Budget speech, Finance Minister Thomas Isaac expressed the hope that besides Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram would be included in the Smart City scheme. The ₹100 crore would be counted as the State share for the project. Mr. Isaac also earmarked ₹150 crore as as the State’s contribution towards the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation. The long-standing demand of the Kochi Corporation for a finance officer in the local body may materialise shortly as the Finance Minister has made a suggestion to this effect in his speech. Going by the Budget speech, one post of a finance officer will be created in each corporation. In municipalities, it would be accounts officer. Chartered accountants would hold these posts, the Budget document said.
