Smart City mission will benefit all: BJP
Hitting out at Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Shantaram Naik for saying that the Smart City mission would be a failure in Panaji, former Panaji MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker said Naik and the party haven’t understood the Smart Cities Mission.
He accused the Congress of double standards, pointing out that the Congress government in Karnataka is aggressively taking the Smart City mission forward, while in Goa, the party has been criticising it.
“The Smart Cities Mission is much more than only infrastructure,” he said, adding that it includes soft features including Wi-Fi, better tax payment systems, GIS mapping of the entire city, and transport interventions that would not only benefit people in Panaji, but the entire state.
Taking a dig at the Congress using the grounded casino vessel at Miramar to further its election campaign, BJP spokesperson Dattaprasad Naik said the Congress itself is to be blamed for it, as it was the Congress government that granted it a license when Digambar Kamat was the chief minister and Ravi Naik the home minister.
He also pointed out that the vessel owner, Gopal Kanda, was home minister in Congressman Bhupinder Singh’s government in Punjab.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar held 16 meetings on Sunday and is continuing to meet smaller groups of 50-140 people.
The party’s workers are also reaching out to the public, said party officials.
